Match Details

Back to the common on a glorious sunny day and with a full squad everyone was hoping that the Youths would get their elusive first win in the Amber league, against Westside Colts. Things had improved with two draws following a string of defeats but after the long Easter break it had been a while since the boys had all been out together. Josh was especially keen to win as he used to play for Westside.

Reece started them off with Ed H in goal, James and Max in defence, Alexander in centre mid, Dani on the right, Sal on the left and Josh upfront. We started brightly and had the better of the first few minutes. AC was able to get forward through the middle and shoot but the keeper saved. Sal also had a couple of efforts go wide plus Josh did some good work to get another shot away. However, it was Westside that took the lead with a long shot that was hit hard for 1-0. Into the second half Milo and Elliot came on then after a few minutes Lucas and Archie also joined them. Lucas was caught out wide right and Westside crossed in a decent ball and scored for 2-0. Reece rolled on the other two subs with Vinnie and Ed S coming on. The boys were down and not out and Lucas was able to get his own back with a good cross of his own that Elliot slotted in nicely with 1-2. Clapham were back in the game and pushed on with another cross from Lucas and Elliot once again was able to convert for 2-2! Milo then got the boys ahead with a well taken goal for 3-2. With our noses in front Reece then made a tactical switch pulling off Archie and and playing three at the back and also in midfield with no strikers. This system worked well and the boys saw out the final minutes for a well deserved victory.
