The U14s got their first win of the season in a rematch against the side they had lost to a couple of weeks ago. Playing for the first time of the home Clapham Common pitch with its long grass and uneven surface the boys had a great game and was just what was needed to help them gel as a team. Tyrone lined them up with Otis in goal, Johan and Charlie as centre back, Emyr at right back, Isaac on the left. In midfield we had both Ben’s central with Lucas on the left and Cody AO on the right. Dilan was playing as a second striker and Cody W upfront. In reverse of the prior game Streatham were a player short so Tyrone surprised everyone by asking Jordon to play on their side. I think this was a great move as it showed the boys the friendly match was about learning to play together and developing their game and not just about winning.
The first move of the game resulted in a corner that Lucas whipped in and Cody AO was able to slot in for a his first goal for the club. The boys tails were up and with Streatham were rattled. Ben Thorpe had a great spell with some driving runs forward linking up well with Dilan and Ben Sharkey. In defence Jonah and Charlie were working well dealing with some long balls from their keeper and tackling when needed. Isaac was very assured in his familiar left back position and Emyr was doing well despite not usually playing in defence.
Against the run of play Streatham were able to get an equaliser after a clearance from Otis went loose. Soon after Cody W hot his first goal after a great run by Cody AO on the right for 2-1. The next goal was another from Cody W after he was able to take it around the keeper and score with a great shot for 3-1.
Into the second half Tyrone surprised everyone again by asking Ben T to switch for Jordon and play for Streatham which despite obvious frustration he handled really well and was a credit tot he club for his sporting attitude. With his electric pace Cody AO pushed on and kept testing the right side of the Streatham’s defence. Dilan was able to score from one of these moves after a great run and cross from Cody AO. Another move led to a nice pass to Dilan but he was taken out by their defender for a penalty that their keeper saved. Then Streatham had a penalty at the other end which they scored for 4-2. Immediately after we got the ball forward to Cody AO who scored for 5-2. Before we ended we had one further goal that was ruled offside and then Ben T scored for Streatham to end the game 5-3.
Tyrone awarded player fo the match to Johan for an assured first game at centre back but their were good performances and partnerships across the pitch. So a great game for the U14s especially as the new players were able to integrate well with the squad.
