The U13 youths got their season up and running with a great win against the Brunwick boys from Fulham. Their familiar coach rocked up with his row of seats on the half way line and referee Robert got the game underway. Cole lined the boys up with Sholto in goal, Seby and Joe as full backs, Ollie Ingram and Taylor in the centre. Archie and James played central midfield with Set L on the left, Lucas on the right, Ben Sharkey as central attacking midfielder and Ben Thorpe upfront. The first half went well with the boys passing and moving much better than earlier in the season. Their control of the ball and partnerships seemed to click across the pitch and everyone seemed to know their roles within the team. We also had a slice of luck with the first goal coming from a penalty for handful which Archie smashed in. Brunswick seemed a decent side well organised and with good shape. Our spine of Archie and both Ben’s were working well to move the ball forward and use their pace to bring in Set and Lucas on the wings. Taylor had a great battle with Brunswick’s physical attacker with some crunching tackles. Joe and Seb looked solid on each side so things looked promising.

In the second half things got lively with Brunswick starting well putting us under pressure but Archie was able to score with a great goal from long range to go 2-0 up. Alexei was now playing on the left getting the ball across well with Emyr also on.

Taylor was hurt badly on his knee and had to go off and James went alongside Ollie in central defence. Brunswick had some good chances and their number 8 was pushing his weight around but the boys dug in well with Ollie and Joe especially battling hard at the back. Lucas had moved into a number 10 position behind Ben Thorpe and was able to pounce on a loose ball and loop it from outside the box above the keeper for 3-0. The boys were now enjoying the game and their tails were up. However, Brunswick weren’t down and out and got one back after latching on to ball from a free kick. Towards the last quarter
things felt good and Xander came in for Emyr. Ben Thorpe was then able to score two great goals to really get the boys buzzing at 5-1. Brunswick scored another front a corner with Sholto certain he’d had the ball in both hands but the ref wasn’t interested. Taylor was back on by this time and unfortunately gave away a penalty which for 5-3 and that was the final kick. So an entertaining game but CRFC very happy to play well, get the win and score a handful of goals.
