- Man of the Match: Gabriel
Clapham progressed to the quarter-finals of the league cup in a match that was much less even than the score suggests
Colts got into their stride early on with Godwin and Jahvarn both going close before James drove home a free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the box after he was fouled. The midfield got on top of their opposite numbers and, aided by good support from the Rubans at full back, fed Godwin and Jahvarn with a host of chances which either missed the target or hit the opposition goalkeeper. A match-winning halftime score would have surprised nobody but it was James’ free-kick that split the sides at the break.
Clapham started well with Jahvarn continuing to torment his marker and continuing to find the keeper with his shots but the match then went flat for most of the rest of the game. Westside sat back, marked closely and the Colts gradually ran out of ideas. Godwin and Jahvarn hit the post and the bar with fierce right-footed efforts from the edge of the box. A clean sheet was achieved in the end with Gabriel looking sharp whenever Westside threatened and it was the away side who continued their cup run.
