Match Report: AFC Wandsworth U12 v Clapham Rangers Colts U12

A vastly-improved performance at King George’s Park saw the Colts record a league double over Wandsworth with an emphatic 3-1 win.

Kicking into a strong wind in the first half, Clapham kept the ball on the deck to press the home side back with a series of passing moves that provided chance after chance. Wani opened the scoring after five minutes, hitting space in the left-side of the box and flicking home with his right. With Rhys and James getting on top in the middle and Wani and Hugo both having the beating of their markers on the wings, a series of chances followed, Rhys playing in Godwin, Hugo finding Talib, Boris setting up Wani and the Colts were rewarded when Wani converted expertly on the turn with his right following another strong run into the box from Rhys. James got a series of shots on target and Gabriel settled after some nervy early clearances as the away side finished the half with a well-deserved lead.

The second half followed in a similar pattern with Colts creating chances but dominating territory more with the wind behind them. A key difference from last week’s loss at Brixistane was the support play and number of options whenever we pushed forward. Hugo forced a couple of saves from his own runs into the box before lashing home from the edge of the area. Ruban, Talib, Boris and Rhys all tested the keeper – Rhys at one point dancing through the whole Wandsworth defence for a goal of the season before running out of road with the keeper to beat.

Wandsworth’s consolation came in the last five minutes when they broke down their right with Gabriel saving but the rebound was forced home.

We’re back on Clapham Common next Saturday with an early opportunity to right last week’s wrong against Brixistane.

Final Score: 3-1
