Clapham Rangers Colts U12 v Santley FC
The Colts were under pressure in defence in the first 2 minutes of the game. Boris kept his cool at the back and soon Ravohn was causing trouble in Santley’s half. The game was suspended briefly after a pitch invasion by a small white scottie dog. Djibril, Boris and Rhys were a strong team at the back for the big Santley boys. Gabriel got to test his goal keeping skills with a great save 10 minutes in. Santley were strong and the Colts struggled to break through and control the ball, panicking and losing shape half way through the match. But the Colts soon regained their composure and started putting pressure on Santley’s defence. Coach Luke was calling instructions on the side line for the team to speed up, play short, sharp passes and keep the ball moving. Santley kept up the pressure but couldn’t get through with a good challenge by Rhys and solid defending by Boris. Ravohn’s quick thinking and sharp, short passes kept the game moving into Santley’s half. A shot on target by Dakara was blocked. Tom and James played well together in midfield. Djibril remained solid at the back. A great block was made by Rhys after a sloppy pass in midfield gave away possession and a corner was conceded but then easily cleared. The Colts settled down and kept their shape well and kept the ball moving. A hefty tackle by Djibril at the back resulted in him being taken off injured. Santley was given a free kick which was blocked by the Colts wall of defence. James and Wani played well in midfield but a second free kick was given to Santley which was cleared by Ravohn. Santley ramped up the pressure in the last 5 minutes of the game. A third free kick was awarded to them. In the last 3 minutes a free kick was given to the Colts. It was a last chance attempt for Dakara to score but it was booted away. A frantic flurry of attacking action by the Colts in the final minutes led to a tense nail biting last 30 seconds when the Colts defence was left open. They were lucky not to concede a goal. Coach Luke praised the team for playing well against a big, strong side. He said, “the lads panicked at times but kept their composure and got a good result in the end”. Final score Nil-Nil.
