On a cold, drizzly & greasy surface in Brentford with no mobile coverage 😞 we won an evenly contested semi final against a team in the division above us through sheer determination after going a goal behind.
1st half Tuff were the better team in the 1st 15mins but we then started to create chances with the best falling to Joseph who rounded the goalie & from a tightish angle side footed goal-wards only for a defender to slide in & clear off the line. With the occasion I feel getting to the players & Tuff making it difficult we were unable to play our normal game, Dan Caton did go close with a header from Joel`s corner. Tuff created some chances that were dealt with well, with Gabriel Robbins & Callum Brock nursing knocks from mid-week meaning they had to have rest periods in the game with Joel slotting into CD for Gabriel. MOM Julio Jaramillo was the stand out player on th pitch in the 1st half winning everything, driving forward & playing players in with thoughtful passing (he was later taken out with a kick to the knee but was later on in 2nd half able to return to the action).
After 10mins of 2nd half the Tuff striker on edge of the box, turned & hit struck a well hit looping shot over Callum in goal to take the lead (he had a little too much room for my liking !), this seemed to galvanise us into determined action, 15mis in Thomas fed by Patrick & clear on the left side of penalty box dragged his shot well wide when we all had placed our life savings on our 20+ goal-scorer equalising ! 10mins later Joao threaded a pass through their centre for Thomas to race clear a place a shot into the far corner from just inside their area to level the scores. Game on. Joseph was crowded out after some good play & pressure from us. Tuff did have a breakaway chance one on one but Callum Dann timed his challenge just outside the area to snuff out the chance. Joel made some good surging runs once he returned to right back position. with extra time & penalties looming Joao had a shot that their keeper could only parry for Sahil to pounce on & score the winner with 5mins left, cue celebrations 😊
The Final is normally at Long Lane FC in Kidbrooke (TBC) to face the winners of Independent (Youth div) v Sporting Duet Colts (Colts div). I expect Independent to win.
