U10 Juniors win their spurs

CRFC U10 Juniors took part in a 7-a-side tournament today at the amazing new Tottenham training ground in Enfield, playing against 4 other well organised teams from across London.

W 1-0 (Ephraim) v Total Football Acdemy B
W 2-0 (Jordan 2) v Muswell Hill
D 2-2 v Muswell Hill (Sam, Ephraim)
W 1-0 (Jordan) v Total Football Academy

The team had not played a competitive match for a number of weeks – but have been training hard in preparation for the tournament. And the motto writ large on the wall of the Spurs meeting area told all the players: “To Dare is to Do“. Well CRFC Juniors certainly did.

The first game kicked off against Total Football Academy (TFA) 2nd Team and the Juniors quickly took the majority of the possession with Kiran dominant in mid-field. A bit of a scrap in the TFA penalty area ended with Ephraim putting the ball in their net. The opposition pushed back but CRFC were well disciplined and it ended Total TFA2  0 – 1 Clapham Rangers

The second match was against the same opposition and they looked determined to do better, scoring a well earned goal down the left early-on. CRFC heads didn’t drop though, and the boys played with a positive attitude that resulted in a penalty which Sam stepped up to take. Sam struck it well, but their competent keeper managed to poke it over the bar. So it ended in a reverse of the first match: Clapham Rangers 0 – 1 TFA2

But the boys did not let this put them off their stride as they started their third match against Muswell Hill whose kit had a close resemblance to the Brasil kit! Freddie hit a cracker that tantalisingly bounced off the bar, but Jordan went one better and slotted away a well made chance to make it 1-0.  Muswell Hill had some good players and pushed back hitting a thumping shot into the top left corner that Philippos somehow managed to stop, but he also managed to collide with the post and was taken off to make sure he was ok.  Kiran valiantly put the keeper’s jumper on and pulled off a couple of very competent saves to the approval of a now recovered Philippos from the side-lines. Jordan then popped another in the net to make the final score Clapham Rangers 2-0 Muswell Hill.

The Rangers lined -up against Muswell Hill again for their fourth match with the opposition quickly taking the lead after kick-off. The Juniors played a very well-worked move with Freddie putting an excellent cross to Sam to level the score; Muswell Hill came back strongly to go ahead again for Ephraim to then score his second and make it even at full time. Final result of a well-contested and entertaining game: Muswell Hill 2 – 2 Clapham Rangers.

The fifth and final match had CRFC face another well disciplined TFA side. All the players were tired by now, but the training paid-off and the opposition were repeatedly frustrated with Kumar, Valentin and Will dominating the midfield with good tackles and timely passing.  Yet again Jordan proved his cool and slotted home his third of the day to make it 1-0 to the rangers. Full time: Clapham 1 – 0 TFA.

So a consistent performance by the team over five well contested matches. As one parent said, the boys played with good heart and excellent organisation today with the keenest of teams struggling to break them down. Well done to everyone and to Coach Michael for his training, tactics and organisation. It seems like the sky’s the limit for the U10 Juniors now …
